From the photo collection of the Suceava archives, this postcard from 1944 or ‘45 depicts the Romanian and Soviet armies allied together to defeat “Hitlerism.” At the start of the war, however, Romania was allied with Germany. The image shows soldiers fighting off enemy forces from Transylvania - the northern part of which was given (back) to Hungary at the beginning of World War II in a pact arranged by Hitler.
